Camera Break Out in San Jose, CA | Local 134

  • San Jose Civic Auditorium San Jose, CA (map)

The focus of this class is to make students aware that as simple as a breakout session may seem to be, there are many moving parts to being a Camera Operator in a Breakout. As with any Camera position, the operator will never know what type of camera they will be operating until they arrive on the job site. It may be a consumer camcorder, DSLR, or a professional studio camera. Regardless of what camera is being used, they will be expected to learn and adapt to use whatever is provided by the client or vendor.

A Breakout session is equally important to the Client as the Keynote or General Session, and in many cases breakouts are recorded and/or webcast. The operator in most cases has the responsibility to make sure exposure, white balance, zoom, focus, framing, and audio record levels are optimal. They must learn to study online manuals on the job and ask questions if necessary. This is not the time to try and fake it through as it can cost the person, not only their job, but the Local can lose the client as well. The slide show presentation will provide basic information for all Camera Operators. One class will not necessarily qualify the student as a “CAMERA OP”. They should be encouraged to practice whenever and where ever they can whether at home, as a volunteer, or freelancer to advance their skill level.
