Scenic in Rochester, NY | Local USA 829

This class will go over seam prep, simple woodgraining, and faux marble with an explanation on aging and distressing for theater versus film and television. Participants are asked to bring in printed (Not On Phone) pictures of simple wood grain, marble, and aged plaster walls. Participants should have paint clothes to change into, and be prepared to set up, and clean up. Business rep will discuss scenic crew positions and the breakdown of roles and responsibilities, (scenic charge, foreperson, journeyman, industrial, shop steward, and apprentice).

The objective is to teach and demonstrate three or four applied scenic skills essential for the journeyman scenic artist. As time allows those skills will be:

  • Basic color language, mixing, adjusting, samples

  • Basic aging and distressing

  • Basic generic woodgrain varied by color

  • Basic marble with varied field and simple veining
