This seminar is intended for the beginning rigger. It will introduce standard terminology and definitions, an introduction to rope work, and proper knot tying techniques. There will be an extensive Fall Protection and Personal Protective Equipment module with live harness fitting instruction, calculation of fall distance safety clearance, and an extensive rigging tools and equipment module with live, hands-on examples. We will study floor-plan and truss layout drawings, with motor placement markings and cable management and distribution plans. We will introduce the concept of hanging points using:
Steel cable and shackle components. Both in arena rigging with baskets, bridles, and stingers,
The difference between dead hang and bridles,
Trussing components, connections, and proper Spanset wrapping,
Connecting the motors to the truss,
and cable management.
The class will receive Boom Lift and Scissor Lift operations instruction and any member without certification will receive a certification card before the end of the seminar. The final day will be rigging practicum where the students will mark out the floor, rig motors according to a floorplan, assemble sections of truss, dress control and power cables (including strain relief of drop cables), and float and fly the truss. Assessments will include written proof of understanding through quiz and performance assessment through guided hands-on practice.
