An introduction to film and television payroll geared to the beginner. Includes a discussion of paperwork, departments, workflow, and rudimentary concepts of union rules. Payroll Basics covers:

• Discuss basics of the payroll office (functions, hierarchies)

• Discuss basics of the crew (unions, functions/job descriptions, basic film lingo)

• Discuss the paperwork involved in processing payroll (budgets, cost reports, production reports, start paperwork, time cards, contracts)

• Discuss the workflow of payroll (things done by day per most offices)

• Begin basic lesson of how time cards are broken (not union specific, very general examples, “worked” vs “elapsed,” guaranteed hours, daily vs weekly)
