Theatrical Wardrobe

The class seeks to broaden the novice’s knowledge and abilities of the many facets of working as a wardrobe dresser backstage. It will seek to educate students about the safety pitfalls they should be aware of when working backstage as a wardrobe dresser. Students will learn basic wardrobe skills, stage terminology, and pertinent information needed for working in a fast-paced union wardrobe department environment.

Maura Peterson, IATSE Local 500

Location: Miami, FL

Ms. Peterson is a 30+ year member of IATSE Theatrical Wardrobe Local #768 and is a 20+ year wardrobe member of IATSE Local #500. She has facilitated and taught wardrobe basics and basic sewing for the dresser in years past for IATSE #500. Ms. Peterson has been a wardrobe supervisor on national tours, cruise lines, and review shows, both in the states and internationally. She has built wardrobe for TV, movies, the Academy Awards, commercials, and industrial shows. Ms. Peterson worked for the Florida Grand Opera costume shop for 14 years as a fitter, seamstress, and draper. She studied Pattern making from UCLA Extension. She has a BA in Performing Arts from Saint Mary's College of California.
