Train the Trainer: Course Development | Denver, CO

The Train the Trainer: Course Development workshop is designed for local trainers who are conducting one/two-day safety or craft skills training courses they design themselves. Participants will review curriculum development theories, learn strategies for making courses learner-centered, and spend time on the practical application of these new skills.

Local trainers lay out the topics sequentially, finalize a safety or craft skills course outline, and complete at least one handout for their intended course. Trainers will receive support and feedback on the instructional design of their course from the instructors and the other IATSE trainers in the course. Please note there will only be time in this session to work on one one/two-day course that is being developed.

Who is it for?

This course is intended for trainers conducting one/two-day safety or craft skills courses they design themselves. The application requires a course title and course description for the course the local plans to have the selected trainer develop during the workshop. Note: We highly recommend previous participation in a Train the Trainer: Training Techniques course prior to attending Train the Trainer: Course Development. If you are unsure if your trainer has done this, we can let you know.

Local unions are invited to select up to three IATSE workers from their local to attend this workshop. Select IATSE workers who you want to develop (or further develop) their own curriculum for one/two-day safety or craft skills courses you want them to teach for the local. If you are a Training Director, Training Coordinator, and/or other officer responsible for coordinating training at your local but do not teach craft skills and/or safety courses at the local, you are welcome to attend this course, so you also know and understand the training methods being shared with trainers.
