This class covers theatrical lighting systems of both conventional and intelligent fixtures. This class just covers the basics and Lighting Board Operators need many hours of practical experience to become proficient. Participants will first learn about theater fixtures from Fresnels to Par Cans to Ellipsoidals and all of the accessories and hardware that go with them. This is followed by a deeper look at Ellipsiodal Reflector Spots; their parts and operation as well as some troubleshooting tips.
Day 1 afternoon will feature hands-on training of how to safely work at height to hang, cable, and focus an instrument. We will then learn how to read and interpret the paperwork that goes along with any Lighting design including the plot, channel hookups, instrument schedules, and magic sheets. Day 2 will cover lighting system set-ups; the basics of power, dimmer racks, circuiting, and cabling. Students will be taught to look out for the myriad of safety issues that are common in the job of an Entertainment Electrician and how to avoid, mitigate, or troubleshoot these issues. Day 2 will also include lighting board operation and programming concepts such as setup, patching, channels, submasters and cues, live vs blind, recording and moving light pallets.
