Production Payroll Accounting 101 in Van Nuys, CA | Local 871

Course covers basic procedures of the payroll accountant’s job and how the position relates to the rest of film production. Participants will learn the ins and outs of a film payroll accountants duties and responsibilities.

  • Discuss the basics of the payroll office (functions, hierarchies, etc.)

  • Discuss the basics of the crew (unions, functions/job descriptions, basic film lingo, etc.)

  • Discuss the paperwork involved in processing payroll (budgets, cost reports, production reports, start paperwork, time cards, contracts, etc.)

  • Discuss the workflow of payroll (things done by day per most offices)

  • Discuss sources of information and who to go to for answers (Key Accountant, paymaster, studio labor relations, etc.)

  • Basic lesson in how time cards are broken (not union specific, very general examples, “worked” vs “elapsed”, guaranteed hours, daily vs weekly, etc.)
