Intermediate Theatrical Lighting in Baltimore, MD | Local 19

The intermediate lighting course is a 1-day course designed to improve workers skills with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in electrics. Topics covered include: Reading a lighting plot, channel hookup, instrument schedule, hanging, circuiting, addressing conventional and moving lights per the plot, hanging truss, power distribution, setting up and utilizing opto boxes, dimmer, 208v racks, configuring complex data signals for multiple universes, calculating basic power requirements, basic programming. This course is designed for beginning learner’s working toward an L-2 and L-1 status. Prior experience is required. Attendance is subject to approval.

  • Demonstrate the proper way to safely circuit, hang, and fly out conventional and intelligent fixtures on a truss.

  • Demonstrate the proper way to distribute power from the company switch through dimmer and 208v racks to lighting fixtures and motors.

  • Learn how to create a basic patch and ‘ring out’ lights using a Whole Hog and ETC ION console.

  • Learn how to read lighting paperwork including the plot, instrument schedule, and channel hookup.

  • Successfully demonstrate the proper installation, signal flow, and power distribution for a basic lighting set up.

  • Demonstrate understanding of DMX signal flow how to properly address and patch intelligent fixtures.

  • Demonstrate the ability to change a conventional lamp in a LEKO or PAR and to swap a lens in a PAR.

  • Demonstrate the ability to change a connector on a 12/3 cable from stagepin to Edison.
