Camera General in San Jose, CA | Local 134

  • San Jose Civic Auditorium San Jose, CA (map)

The major focus of the training will be on building the camera properly. In pairs, one student builds while the other watches, and when instructor deems camera is built properly, the student who built the camera will completely disassemble to the way it was received so the next student can start from scratch. It is important to have students “zero out” all pan, tilt, and counterbalance settings when disassembling. Many operators do not do this as most rental gear is well used, however, not “zero” settings will eventually damage the fluid head. Building cameras will consist of, but not limited to Dolly cam with studio kit, Sports Lens, and Box Lens Cameras under the supervision of the instructor. Emphasis will be placed on respect for the equipment, the cost of components and costs to repair or replace.

Day two will consist of live multi cam shoot with Director Brian Chance He will start the day easy going calling shots, framing, zooming, etc. As the day progresses, he with get more demanding faster paced, and more critical of operators. Each operator will work all positions.
