Over the last 10-15 years, fiber optic cable has begun to emerge in entertainment and television as the best way to connect audio and video. Traditional copper wires are beginning to be phased out after a century. Connectivity for cameras, audio, and monitoring will be through fiber optic and push out copper by the next decade.
Fiber maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting in television, theaters, and other entertainment venues will be covered. A Camera Operator, Utility, and Stagehand must have some knowledge of fiber theory and trouble-shooting in order to set-up venues. Utilities who run the cable have to work with video controllers and fiber techs in meter reading and cleaning techniques. The emergence of Super-Slow-Motion and 4K cameras has made this type of training more important than ever. These specialty cameras are present on many Regional shows, and have become a staple in the Sports Television Industry.
