In this course we will explore the concepts and safety protocol associated with wiring a film set. This specialized training course includes approximately 75% theoretical and 25% practical training. Each attendee will need a copy of the Set Lighting Technician’s Handbook - fourth edition by Harry C. Box, The Provincial Electrical Code Book and the ESA- Television, Film, Live Event Electrical Guidelines ESA Spec 003-R7.

  • Electrical Safety

  • Review of Ohm’s Law

  • Load Calculations

  • Single Phase and Three Phase systems

  • Insulation selection

  • Review of Wire Ampacity and selection

  • Working with Spec 003 and the code book

  • Working with Electrical inspectors

  • Practical Applications on set: Set installed fixtures; Set Dec practices; LEDs; Custom build fixtures

  • Setting up a shop

  • Soldering introduction/review
