Embroidery in New York, NY | Local 764

This class is an introduction to embroidery for people interested in improving their hand sewing skills. Embroidery skills benefit many aspects of hand sewing and costume maintenance. As each stitch is taught, examples are given of how these can be used to build and repair costumes.

  • Introduction to embroidery and ideas for projects

  • Introduction to supplies

  • How to use six strand embroidery floss

  • Stitches and their variations are demonstrated and then practiced by students

    • Straight stitch

    • Back stitch

    • Split stitch

    • Chain stitch

    • Blanket / buttonhole stitch

    • French knot

    • Herringbone stitch

    • Woven and darning stitch
