Basic Audio Mixing with Powered Speakers in Burbank, CA | Local 33

Basic Audio Mixing is a hands-on experience for IATSE stage technicians. The participants will start with inventory of the audio equipment, inspecting it for any damage. They will then set up the mixing console, apply power and while using an industry standard microphone and headphones and make adjustments to the controls of the mixing console. A special focus on the necessity for the controls of the mixer and description of the stages of amplification within the mixer will give a foundation for the purpose of mixing.

Students will next unpack and place a powered speaker in their workstation and we will instruct and discuss the process of connecting and operating this speaker effectively. The wireless microphone section will include connection of a wireless microphone to the mixing console, coordination of frequencies in the environment, setting the frequency, and programming the transmitter to sync with the receiver. A discussion of the RF frequency environment will be included to give a basic understanding of the challenges of using wireless microphones in a very crowded convention AV environment.
