IATSE Local 481 trainers, Phil Reilly and Eric Komar have been given express permission by JLG Industries and Genie to train our qualified members to rig lights and diffusion frames from certain models of aerial work platforms. This class is designed for studio grips and set lighting technicians. The AWP Qualified Operator Training is a prerequisite.
During the classroom portion, participants learn about the load limitations of AWPs, the motion picture equipment loading limitations and prescribed cribbing of aerial work platforms in a manufacturer approved manner. The classroom portion of the day takes place indoors.
The rigging practical section takes place outdoors and focuses on:
- Building a flyswatter that responds to New England weather conditions
- Utilization of condor rollers
- Leveling techniques
