Skid Steer equipment is often used on productions and depending on the attachments (forks or a bucket), are used as forklifts or front end loaders. These small vehicles are both powerful and agile and can present numerous safety challenges when being utilized on sets or locations. Course components include classroom workbook, viewing a video, visual inspection, function test, and supervised, individual hands-on practical. 

Over a 12-hour span, the classroom portion will be held indoors, followed by individual, supervised practical sessions which take place outdoors, at a nearby site. Local 481 Trainers are Phil Reilly and Eric Komar. After participating in the course, participants are able to:

• Discuss how weight distribution affects skid-steer loader steering and stability.
• Explain the difference between Tipping Load and Rated Operating Capacity.
• Have an understanding of the hydrostatic transmission, and that the loader will react the moment that the steering levers are moved.
• Explain why maintenance is so important for safe, efficient, and productive operation.
• Identify the controls and their functions.
• Identify the loader's safety features and explain their importance.
• Explain the steps of safe entry and exit.
• Explain how to change attachments (forks).
• Know the fundamentals of safe maneuvering, traveling, and working with the attachment.
