AV Essentials has been designed by an IATSE working group along with InfoComm to enhance and develop AV skills in our workforce. In preparation of this curriculum, special attention has been given to fulfill some of the IATSE contract’s audiovisual skill set requirements.
We will review connectors, cables, adaptors and their application, signal flow, audio and microphone techniques, projection, screen set-up, computer use (both Mac OS and Windows OS), and simple networking. PowerPoint, Keynote, and other presentation platforms will be taught. We will also discuss wireless control of presentations (e.g. the use of iPhones and iPads to wirelessly control presentations). Troubleshooting sessions for all of the above areas will be presented where the students will have to find and correct problems in all set-ups.
We will emphasize appearance, hospitality, and customer relations throughout the four-day, hands-on training and will have a classroom presentation emphasizing these issues. Students will also be required to dress as they would for an AV call the day of their practical exam and will be graded on appearance and Customer Relations Skills.
