Costumes: Back to the Basics

This course is designed to provide technical knowledge to both new and experienced Costumers. Participants will learn the classifications within the costume department and what duties fall within each classification. They will learn the value of various types of paperwork within the production and which items must be hard copies as opposed to digital. Trainees will identify the tools used within the various areas of the costume department and how each item may be used within the department. Additionally, the class participants will learn to measure the body and size stock properly as well as learn the appropriate set etiquette for costumers.

Suzanne MB Chambliss, PhD has been a working costumer in the entertainment industry for more than 20 years. She holds an MFA in Costume Design and a PhD in Theatre History, Dramatic Literature, Theory & Criticism with a minor in Arts Education. She is also an OSHA Authorized Trainer. Dr. Chambliss is an active member of the Executive Board and the training committee for IATSE Local 478.
