Basic Lighting

The basic lighting course is designed to teach workers basic lighting skills including identifying basic lighting instruments and cables, lighting terminology, basic signal flow, proper hanging and circuiting of lighting instruments, and basic focusing techniques.

  • The proper way to safely hang and circuit conventional fixtures

  • The proper way to safely hang, circuit, address, and run signal flow for LED light fixtures

  • Different lighting accessories such as gels, gobos, and irises and their applicability in focusing lights for desired design effects

  • Basic lighting terminology

  • Light-focusing techniques for conventional instruments

  • DMX signal flow and how to properly cable and address LED lighting fixtures

Danyela Marks is a Sub Electrician for Disney’s The Lion King and a business owner. She was previously the Assistant Electrician at Baltimore’s France-Merrick Performing Arts Center and holds a master's degree from New England College and a bachelor's degree from McDaniel College. Danyela has worked in the Broadway and Off-Broadway circuit of the live entertainment industry for 20 years and is a proud member of IATSE and AEA.
