Facial Hair FX 101
This course covers hand-laid facial hair appliances. The course includes discussion of a variety of methods and materials used to achieve realistic hair effects. Participants will practice applying historically accurate facial hair for background actors in period pieces. Course participants will gain familiarity with the process of preparing, applying, and styling crepe wool and natural hair into false beards, mustaches, brows, and sideburns. By the end of the course, participants will have applied either sideburns or a mustache to each other.

Anna obtained a bachelor's degree in Wig Making and Makeup Design from the University of Texas at Austin in 2010. She attended the Vancouver Film School in the Makeup Design for Film and Television program and was awarded Student of the Year. While there, she interned at the Lindala/Schminken FX Studio and had her work published in Makeup Artist Magazine. Since joining IATSE, Anna has worked extensively on productions such as The Leftovers, The Son, Panic, Look Both Ways, In Space with Markiplier, The Long Game, and Iron Lung. She also designs wigs for Zach Theatre and has been the adjunct professor of Makeup Design at St. Edward's University since 2021.
