Portable Power Generator in New Orleans, LA | Local 478


This course covers the theory, operation, and maintenance of portable power generators, electrical safety, and related topics including grounding and bonding and the use of GFCIs. The course covers the parts of a generator, how they work, how to maintain, lubricate, and operate them safely, as well as how to safely make electrical connections, measure the voltage and current, and protect against the hazards of electricity by using the proper PPE and safe techniques.

Participants will learn how generators work, how to read and interpret generator specifications, how to set up, operate, and safely monitor generators. They will also learn 3-phase power calculations, how to properly size generators and cables, and how to deal with the threat of lightning. The course teaches skills needed to safely set up and operate a portable power generator, and the skills necessary to avoid loss of power during a shoot and to extend the life of the generator.
